PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY
(Revised April, 2006)
Philosophy
We believe that Scripture places ultimate responsibility for the education of children with their parents. The Board acts as a representative of the parents by overseeing the school and developing policies which reflect the concerns and values of the parent body. Teachers act in the place of parents during the school day. This partnership is vital to ensure the highest quality education. It is in the best interest of the school therefore, to provide a multitude of ways for parents to be involved in their children’s education both directly and indirectly. It has been shown that where parents are actively involved in their children's education, achievement invariably improves.
Policy
- All volunteers must have a current criminal record check completed by the local RCMP detachment.
- All volunteers must have a current child welfare check to be administered by Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Copies of the above forms must be submitted to Devon Christian School prior to any involvement in school or classroom activities.
- The principal will actively support and encourage parental involvement in the education of their children and make recommendations to the board as to how this may best be accomplished.
- The school will provide Parent-Teacher-Student Fellowship nights which help parents in their role of supporting the school's ministry at home. Attendance at these meetings is expected of all families associated with the school.
- The school will provide opportunities for parents to financially support the school either by gifts or helping with fundraising activities.
- The school will provide opportunities for parents (individually or in groups) to help with the maintenance, repair, and development of the facilities and grounds.
- The Board, as the need arises, will create ad-hoc committees to research and make recommendations on topic of particular interest to many in the parent body.
- The principal shall ensure that parents are regularly informed of all significant school or classroom events.
- The principal shall ensure that staff communicates regularly with parents by daily planners, phone, periodic letters, field trip notices, and progress reports.
